Program Director Summit

We completed another Program Director Summit this past week in Dallas. At the meeting before last, I asked our Program Directors (PDs) to openly answer the question “Why are you at Apogee?” The top two answers were “loyalty” and “support” and together they constituted more than two thirds of the overall responses. Each time we hold these meetings I am more and more impressed by the level of talent and dedication we have in our PDs. They are real leaders. They understand that leadership is service to others and to the cause; that being a real leader means putting the needs of your team ahead of your own. There were numerous stories of PDs going above and beyond for their teams. It was one of many moments in my life when I was VERY proud to be a part of Apogee.

During our meeting we analyzed many weaknesses in our Hospitalist Report Card. In some cases the data is just plain missing and in others it is sub-optimally applied. We are in the process of a wholesale rework of this most important document. The Hospitalist Report Card is the physical representation of the Hospitalist Promise. It must be perfect. In order to be the best, we must be able to prove that we are the best. The new Hospitalist Report Card and supporting infrastructure will be implemented by August 1 of this year. We will then have data on specific performance by our programs so that we can concretely demonstrate the value we bring to our clients. Further, the Hospitalist Report Card will be the gold standard in our effort to improve all of our programs across the board in the areas of safety, quality, service and value. More information will be coming your way over the next couple of weeks. As you review this information and all the data we track at Apogee, remember one thing: We measure to improve, not to impress.
