SCHOLAR PROGRAM

How Apogee gives back to the community.

Apogee Physicians is investing in America's future by funding four-year medical school scholarships at The University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix, in partnership with Arizona State University.

The scholarship was established in 2007 to encourage the best and the brightest, talented students to study and practice medicine. The U.S. education system forces our brightest students to incur a mountain of debt to devote a lifetime of service to others. Each four-year scholarship of $80,000 is reinvesting in the future. Full tuition, fees and books are covered during the scholar's medical school education.

Apogee has awarded two scholarships thus far. The recipients are Sarah Whitley (fourth-year) and Shannon Fortin (second-year).

Sarah Whitley

Sarah graduated from Phoenix North High School and the University of Arizona with a double major in molecular and cellular biology and saxophone performance in addition to being a Flinn Scholar. She was one of 24 medical students in the inaugural class of the University of Arizona College of Medicine.

Shannon Fortin

Born in Grand Forks, N.D., Shannon earned her degree in biochemistry at ASU. She has done cancer research at the Translational Genomics Research Institute in downtown Phoenix and went to Brussels, Belgium, on a Fullbright fellowship. In addition to her MD, Shannon is taking a two-year break in medical school to pursue her PhD.
